No. 13 Alabama baseball dropped a midweek matchup with UAB 11-2 to split the season series with the Blazers.
A terrible start from Alabama's pitching and defense made the difference in Tuesday’s game against UAB. The Crimson Tide’s pitching staff struggled to silence the bats of UAB, but the five errors by the defense didn’t make it any easier. In the two games against the Blazers this season, Alabama has committed 11 errors.
Luke Smyers got the start for the Crimson Tide and got the first batter of the game out, but that was the only out he was able to record on the night as the Blazers put seven runs across in the first inning. Smyers was handed the loss as he surrendered five runs on three hits while recording just one out before his early exit.
The Blazers extended their lead by two more runs in the fourth and added an extra two runs of insurance in the seventh inning to put an exclamation mark on their 11-run offensive breakout.
Alabama’s lone bit of offense happened in the sixth inning when John Lemm drove a two-run home run over the left-center fence for the Crimson Tide’s only runs of the game. Lemm finished the game 1-for-3 on the night.
UAB held the Alabama offense to just two runs on six hits on the night.
The Crimson Tide drops to 28-14 overall and remains 9-9 in the SEC on the season.
Alabama will travel to Tennessee for a weekend series April 23-25, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
