The widening and deepening of Mobile’s shipping channel to 50 feet is already paying off, attracting larger ships and enabling more goods to enter the world’s trade market.
The latest company to come on board is Ray-Mont Logistics, a Canadian-based bulk logistics provider. The company is currently constructing a new export-focused transloading facility at the Port of Mobile. It will host exports of plastic resin packaging, forest products and other goods.
The facility will be the third in the United States for Ray-Mont.
“Ray-Mont’s decision to establish operations here speaks to the competitive advantages we can offer manufacturers, shippers and their global customers,” said Alabama Port Authority director and CEO Doug Otto. “With the deepest container port on the Gulf Coast, growing multimodal connectivity and expanding inland reach, the Port of Mobile continues to strengthen its position as America’s Gulf Gateway.”
The Port of Mobile’s depth and width aren’t the only attractive features for shipping companies. The port also offers on-dock rail infrastructure.
"The Port of Mobile is an increasingly important gateway for global trade, and we see this project as a meaningful opportunity to build long-term value around that momentum,” said Ray-Mont president and CEO Charles Raymond. “For Ray-Mont, this terminal expansion investment is about establishing a strong logistics platform in Mobile that connects inland resin and forest products production to international markets through an efficient, scalable and strategically positioned export hub."
Construction is projected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“We are grateful to Ray-Mont and ALE for investing in Mobile, and we are proud to partner with them on this project,” Otto added. “This facility will better serve their customers, strengthen supply chain connectivity and create new opportunities for cargo movement through Mobile.”
