The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) reached an agreement with ports and shippers, relieving 36 ports nationwide of a strike.

Workers asking for better wages without automation previously took part in a strike, impacting ports, including the Mobile port.

Port officials were concerned the strike could impact the APM container terminal and worked ahead of time to minimize the impact.

Union members must review and approve the document before the agreement is official.

Alabama Port Authority director & CEO John Driscoll said he hopes that happens soon.

"The Alabama Port Authority is pleased to hear there is a tentative agreement between the ILA and the U.S. Maritime Alliance," Driscoll responded. "We will continue to monitor discussions throughout the ratification process and look forward to a swift approval that will ensure smooth trade flows across the East and Gulf Coasts."

Details of the six-year contract agreement between the union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance have not been released, but both parties stated that it protects workers and makes ports safer and more efficient.
