Wednesday afternoon, House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) appointed State Rep. Jeff Sorrells (R-Hartford) to be the next chairman of the House Committee on Health.

Sorrells, who has been a member since 2019 and served on the committee since 2021, will be replacing State Rep. Paul Lee (R-Dothan), who stepped down from the position after being elected House majority leader.

"This committee handles matters that directly impact the health and well-being of the people of Alabama, and as chairman, I am committed to ensuring every decision we make is in the best interest of Alabamians," said Sorrells. "I am grateful that Speaker Ledbetter has entrusted me to serve in this vitally important role and look forward to hitting the ground running."

Ledbetter cited Sorrells' knowledge of the committee and established relationships as key factors in the decision to name him chairman.

"I am proud to appoint Rep. Jeff Sorrells to the House Committee on Health chairmanship," Ledbetter said. "Having served on this committee for the last five years, Rep. Sorrells possesses the knowledge and relationships to ensure this vital committee continues to operate at a high level."

"Leader Lee leaves big shoes to fill, but I am confident Jeff is the right man for the job," Ledbetter added.
