President Donald Trump has tapped U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) to lead a delegation to Montevideo, Uruguay, to attend the presidential inauguration of Yamandú Orsi.
Orsi will be inaugurated as Uruguay's next president on Saturday after narrowly defeating his right-wing opponent last November.
"On behalf of President Trump and our nation, I am excited to be leading the United States' delegation to Uruguay's presidential inauguration," Britt said. "It was a very humbling moment to be selected by President Trump to lead this presidential delegation, and I am honored he has entrusted me with the responsibility to do this."

The inauguration has been moved indoors due to rain. In addition to the American presidential delegation, several prominent South American presidents are slated to attend, alongside President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany and Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan. China's President Xi Jinping's special envoy and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Han Jun, will also be in attendance.
Other members of Trump's presidential delegation include Heide Fulton, U.S. Ambassador to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay; Frank Cartwright Weiland, senior bureau official of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, U.S. Department of State; Morgan DeWitt-Snow, special assistant to the president; and Cate Dillon, White House Llaison, U.S. Department of State.
"As the head of the delegation, I will meet with the incoming President to offer our nation's congratulations, warm wishes, and express our strong commitment to this crucial bilateral relationship," Britt said. "Uruguay has proven herself one of the world's strongest democracies and is a stable ally in an unstable neighborhood there in South America," Senator Britt added. "As we work to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity in our country and across the globe, partners like Uruguay are key. I am looking forward to a fruitful trip and a joyous celebration of Uruguay's peaceful transfer of power."
"It is an honor to serve the great state of Alabama in the United States Senate and to represent President Trump and the American people on the world stage," she concluded.
