Following an agreement to the first phase of a peace deal between the terrorist group Hamas and the country of Israel, lawmakers from across Alabama are praising President Donald Trump for playing a defining role in brokering the historic accord.
On Monday, Alabama’s two senators and the majority of its congressional delegation took to social media expressing appreciation for the commander-in-chief’s efforts, which have so far yielded a ceasefire and the return of twenty living Israeli hostages.
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said the world desired peace in the region and President Trump ‘delivered.’
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) credited Trump and called the agreement between Israel and Hamas ‘historic.’
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) referred to Trump as the "President of Peace."
U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) touted Trump’s address before the Israeli Knesset on Monday, while asking for prayers that the peace lasts.
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) simply wrote "hostages freed" and "peace achieved."
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) called the return of hostages an answer to “years of prayer.”
According to officials, the next phases of Trump’s 20-point peace plan will involve the possible disarmament of Hamas, a decision on the future governance of Gaza, and the possibility of an independent Palestinian state. Hamas has previously rejected the possibility of disarming, while the Israelis have signaled opposition to a fully independent Palestine.
