The Priceville City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to reverse the firing of an officer who was terminated for his role in a deadly police chase.

The council deliberated privately for approximately two and a half hours during an appeal hearing before returning with a unanimous decision to reinstate the officer. Mayor Sam Heflin recused himself from the proceedings.

According to a local news report, Gary Chapman, the son of Duane Chapman, also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, will now be permitted to return to work after a 10-day suspension without pay. Chapman will also begin retraining under a supervisor when the suspension is completed.

In September, Chapman was attempting to pull Archie Hale over for moving violations and suspicion of DUI when Hale fled, eventually striking a vehicle in Hartselle, killing one teenager and injuring six others. Hale was hospitalized, arrested and booked into Morgan County Jail. He has since been charged with reckless murder and is being held without bond.

Chapman was placed on administrative leave immediately after the crash and fired shortly thereafter.
