Luisa Reyes was caught off guard as she crossed the Hugh R. Thomas Bridge in Tuscaloosa around noon Sunday.
A small group of pro-abortion demonstrators gathered with signs on Mother's Day. They were at the intersection of Lurleen Wallace Boulevard and University Boulevard.
"I was like, 'Oh my gosh. I can't believe they're protesting that on Mother's Day," Reyes said. "I think the main thing that shocked me was not so much the issue, because that's such a hot-button issue all over the place nowadays, but the fact that they were protesting on Mother's Day. I was just like, 'Man, some things are just supposed to be sacred."

The demonstrators told Reyes they were from Indivisible, a nationwide movement to "resist the Trump agenda."
Northport-Tuscaloosa Indivisible's welcome note states, "We have to fight the MAGA extremists and fight back against Donald Trump's extreme agenda. We need to get out and talk to people who feel the same way. We're going to take action together and build ties, create community, and have a space for people to hold each other up."
"We don't want only Democrats. We want people with common sense," it adds.

Reyes said the group was friendly, but she didn't think the destruction of unborn life should have been perpetuated on a day the nation celebrates the sanctity of motherhood.
