An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) K9 will soon get his own protective uniform. Vested Interest in K9’s, Inc. is donating a bullet and stab protective vest to K9 Toby, who serves on ALEA’s SWAT Team.

The two-year-old Dutch shepherd will wear the vest embroidered with “The gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”

The $1,800 vest is expected to be delivered from the Colorado company within the next 10 weeks.

K9 Toby is trained in apprehension and tracking. He will wear the 5 lb. vest while on duty. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,000 vests in all 50 states. The investment is made possible by private and corporate donations. To receive a vest, a K9 must be at least 20 months old, be actively employed, and be certified by a law enforcement agency.

ALEA’s K9 Macs received a vest last year.

The vests come with a five-year warranty.
