Elberta High School will host a public memorial service for a beloved football player who passed away while swimming with friends in Palmetto Creek.
The body of Avery Pickle, 17, was recovered on July 5 from the Perdido Beach following a search by multiple agencies.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death. The preliminary investigation revealed Pickle likely died from an “accidental drowning.” A full report is pending toxicology.
Investigators do not suspect foul play.
The football team, cheerleaders and other classmates gathered on the football field earlier this week to honor No. 48. A sign was placed in the locker room reading “48 for 48” in honor of Pickle.
