Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 Thursday. She died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland with family by her side.
Britain just celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June. The queen and her royal family attended days of events and parties.
With the death of the queen, her 73-year-old son Charles becomes monarch.
Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne for 70 years. When Elizabeth was 21, almost five years before she became queen, she promised the people of Britain and the Commonwealth that “my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.”
She was married to Prince Philip for more than 73 years. Philip died in 2021 at the age of 99.
