U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is criticizing California Gov. Gavin Newsom after the Democrat made "racist and offensive" remarks while speaking to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens at an event in the city on Sunday.
"I'm not trying to impress you, I'm just trying to impress upon you, 'I'm like you. I'm not better than you.' I'm a 960 SAT guy," Newsom explained to Dickens, a black man. "And I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm not trying to act all there if you got 940 … You've never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech."

Tuberville argued Newsom's comments weren't surprising, while accusing the Democratic Party of racism against blacks for "assuming the [group] doesn't own photo IDs."
"This is racist and offensive," Tuberville told 1819 News. "For years, Democrat elites like Gavin Newsom have been claiming that requiring a photo ID to vote is 'racist.' But what's actually racist is assuming that black Americans don't own a photo ID. Instead of dividing Americans based on skin color, Gavin should focus on bringing people together to celebrate the principles of equality, freedom, and opportunity that have made this country great."
He added, "But Gavin's obsession with running for President means he is held captive by the most radical members of the Democrat party who hate this country and everything we stand for."
