The Food and Drug Administration is warning about possible contamination of some Great Value raw, frozen shrimp.

The Great Value brand is a brand owned by Walmart, one of the big box store chain's private label brands, exclusively sold at Walmart stores.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection detected possible Cesium-137 in shipping containers at four U.S. ports. Testing on the shrimp came back positive.

Cesium is a soft, flexible, silvery-white metal that becomes liquid near room temperature. Exposure can cause burns, acute radiation sickness and even death.

The shrimp was distributed by Indonesia's BMS Foods. The FDA believes the food was prepared, packed or held in insanitary conditions.

Walmart stated the recall affects the following 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.

The FDA stated it is not aware of any of the positive-testing shrimp entering the U.S. food supply. However, they are recommending a recall on all products from BMS Foods.

The following Great Value brand frozen shrimp are recalled:

·       Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

·       Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

·       Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

The FDA says if you have any of these packages, throw them away.
