As U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) continues to push for mass amnesty legislation cloaked in morality, Alabama's top three candidates for U.S. Senate are now sounding off on the so-called "Dignity Act."

The Dignity Act is a bipartisan proposal aimed at reforming key parts of the U.S. immigration system. The legislation includes reforms affecting international students and recent graduates, updates to employment-based green card pathways, and permanent protections for Dreamers, as well as additional provisions that could impact non-citizen students, scholars, staff, and broader campus communities.

In a statement to 1819 News, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, called the bill a "betrayal of our immigration system."

"Despite its catchy name, the DIGNITY Act is nothing more than amnesty dressed up in buzzwords, and it's an affront to every American who believes in law and order," said Moore. "The 'DIGNITY Act,' above all, rewards illegal behavior. That's not dignity. That's a betrayal of our immigration system and a direct incentive for more lawlessness at our Southern border."

"In an opinion piece I wrote about this bill before it ever gained traction in Congress, I warned the America people of the dangers it presented. Alabamians can be sure that I will continue to fight this bill every chance I get," he added.

U.S. Senate candidate Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall told 1819 News that Salazar's bill is "nothing more than rank amnesty dressed up in feel-good language."

"Americans sent a clear message in 2024: secure the border and enforce our laws. Instead, "The Dignity Act" is nothing more than rank amnesty dressed up in feel-good language," argued Marshall. "Congress should focus their efforts on closing the loopholes that allow billions of dollars in welfare, Medicaid and other benefits to lure illegal immigrants into our country and serve as a vehicle for rampant fraud that harms Alabama's hard-working families. Congress should work aggressively with the Trump Administration to claw back from states like California and Minnesota the billions of dollars in fraudulent illegal immigrant benefits."

He continued, "In the Senate, I'll fight for the American worker, and against those who violate our laws, just as I have done as Alabama's Attorney General."

U.S. Senate candidate former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson also firmly pushed back on the possibility of mass amnesty.

"Amnesty is not justice, it's the hijacking of American kindness," Hudson argued. "It rewards illegal behavior and tells the world our laws don't matter. Our leaders should be protecting America's borders, jobs, and culture, not giving them away. We can't fix America by importing the problems other countries refused to solve, and we shouldn't be betraying this country on her 250th birthday with globalist propaganda."

"Secure the border. Enforce the law. Put Americans first," he concluded.

Salazar has noted that the Dignity Act was written in consultation with American business leaders and executives in agriculture and farming. Both industries are known to be heavily reliant on illegal immigrant labor.

Per recent data released by the Center for Immigration Studies, Salazar's bill "grants first-tier amnesty (green cards) to somewhere between 2.5 and 2.7 million illegal aliens (Dreamers) who came to the U.S. before January 2, 2021. The Dignity Act grants second-tier amnesty (work permits) to somewhere around 11.8 million illegal aliens (Dignity-ers) who came to the U.S. before January 1, 2021."
