Scott Ortis defeated incumbent State Sen. Dan Roberts (R-Mountain Brook) in Senate District 15.

"Alabamians are sick and tired of politics as usual, and they sent that message loud and clear tonight," said Ortis in a written statement to 1819 News. "I am ready to get to work and deliver real results for District 15."

According to the Associated Press, Ortis won with 52% of the vote with 95% of the results reported.

Ortis is a father of five, including his son Sid, who passed away after a courageous fight with pediatric cancer. In Sid's memory, Ortis helped establish the Sid Strong Foundation to support pediatric cancer research.

Ortis does not have a Democrat opponent in the November general election.
