During Wednesday's episode of Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show," U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) discussed the ongoing congressional redistricting battle taking place in the state of Virginia.

According to Moore, Alabama Republicans should follow the aggressive example set by Democrats in Virginia and level the political playing field by redistricting Alabama in favor of conservatives.

"The thing that frustrates me with Republicans is that we always play so nice, and they don't," Moore told show host Jeff Poor. "The legislature in Virginia is 11 seats, and it's a five-to-six, right now. They're trying to make it a 10 to one. They're just trying to carve out Republicans. If they've got the power in a state, they absolutely abuse that process."

Moore, a candidate for U.S. Senate, argued that congressional redistricting shouldn't be based on race, as it has been in the Yellowhammer state.

"I think it has to be based on the communities of interest and that sort of thing," explained Moore. "We got these states, like Indiana played nice, but you got guys like Virginia and California. I got friends of mine up here. They're literally just carving up that state just to make sure that a Democrat holds every single seat. So that's not very representative."

The lawmaker noted the bizarre layout of some of Virginia's new, liberal-leaning congressional districts, contending they were created for a singular reason.

"Some of these districts look insane the way they're drawn, so they get that Democrat seat," Moore said. "I don't know why we, as red states, play nice, but we tend to have pretty secure elections. Blue states don't tend to do that."

Added Moore, "And when they get a chance to draw them, they draw them the way they're going to win them."
