Republican candidate for Alabama's Congressional District 2 Hampton Harris has secured the endorsement of former State Sen. and Rep. Dick Brewbaker in his campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile).
On Thursday, Brewbaker announced his support for Harris, touting the Montgomery native's "Christian values and conservative beliefs."
"I am proud to wholeheartedly endorse my friend Hampton Harris for the Republican nomination to represent Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives," said Brewbaker. "Hampton and I competed as candidates in the 2024 Republican primary for this same seat. He ran a hard, honorable campaign and demonstrated the character, conviction, and integrity that Alabama desperately needs in Washington."
He added, "Hampton Harris is a man of his word whose reputation for Christian values and conservative beliefs precedes him. When no one else was willing to step forward and challenge the Democrat incumbent this cycle, Hampton refused to sit back and give the Democrats another free ride."
"That kind of courage and commitment is exactly what we need in Congress," concluded Brewbaker.
Harris expressed gratitude for Brewbaker's show of support.
"I am deeply honored and grateful to receive the endorsement of my friend and fellow Montgomery businessman Dick Brewbaker," Harris stated. "Dick has been a strong voice for conservative values and small business in Alabama, and his support means a great deal."
"Together we will continue fighting for limited government, secure borders, and the principles that make our state great," he added.
The special primary election is set for August 11.
