The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office is trying to find the family of a man whose remains were found in February.
Scott Kenneth Vaughn, 59, of Montgomery, was found in a wooded area adjacent to U.S. Highway 280 on February 17.
Coroner Bill Yates said a man walking his dog spotted human skeletal remains and called police. The remains were in the area of Grandview Parkway.
Birmingham Police responded and sent the body to the medical examiner’s office, where they identified the remains through DNA testing. The cause of death was undetermined.
“All efforts to locate family have failed,” Yates said. “In August of 2023, the decedent was living in Montgomery, Alabama.”
Vaughn had previous addresses in Athens, Higdon, Hazel Green and Flintstone, Georgia.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office at 205-930-3603.
