Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl is leaning against running for Senate in 2026.

According to the Jewish Insider, Pearl will make a final decision on entering the race by the end of September.

Pearl spent the summer meeting with GOP campaign operatives and Republican senators as he considered whether to enter the race, according to the outlet.

Two sources familiar with Pearl’s thinking told the outlet that he has not officially decided against running and has given himself until the end of September to make a final call, but is unlikely to enter the race.

Pearl declined the outlet’s request for comment on his plans.

Alabama has an open Senate seat in 2026, as U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is running for governor instead of seeking re-election to the Senate. Announced candidates in the Republican primary for Senate include Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, Jared Hudson and Rodney Walker.
