The Auburn coaching search has taken another turn as Jon Sokoloff reports Lane Kiffin will step down at Ole Miss on Friday following Thursday's Egg Bowl and head to Auburn to become the Tigers' 28th head coach.

Sokoloff is currently the Sports Director for WCBI News in North Mississippi and was also one of the first to break the news of John Cohen leaving Mississippi State for Auburn near the end of October.

According to Sokoloff, sources inside the Ole Miss program have denied the report of Kiffin's departure, and sources close to Auburn say the department has not offered the head coaching position to anyone.

The news comes after rumors surrounding Kiffin have been swirling since Bryan Harsin was fired on October 31. However, Kiffin has repeatedly denied the rumors of his departure, including today during his weekly press conference.

"I mean, I don't know what else to say," Kiffin told local reporters. "I can get up here and give you whatever it was—the 'pine box' speech and, 'I'm not going to be the next head coach at Alabama.' I can give you those things, and so, I don't know what those mean. I don't know what else to say."

Kiffin has spent the previous three seasons with the Rebels in Oxford, tallying up 23-10 record. The Rebels will face the Bulldogs of Mississippi State for the 119th time in a Thanksgiving Day showdown.
