Major League Baseball appears to be coming to Birmingham next year.

According to a report by San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Giants will play the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024 at "America's oldest baseball park," Rickwood Field in Birmingham.

Rickwood Field opened in 1910. It was modeled primarily after Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and has hosted MLB Hall of Famers like Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby, Dizzy Dean, Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, Willie Mays and Satchell Paige, among others.

It was home to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues, Birmingham native Willie Mays' team from 1948-1950.

The field has also been used for scenes in the films "42," a biopic about Jackie Robinson, and "Cobb," a biopic about Ty Cobb.

The 2024 game would be the third iteration of MLB's "Field of Dreams" game. The first two games were played in Dyersville, Iowa, on the same site the movie was filmed in 2021 and 2022. That site is reportedly under construction, and there will be no "Field of Dreams" game for the 2023 season.
