In a statement, Finebaum voiced appreciation for the Alabamians who reached out to him, urging him to enter the race. He also thanked ESPN executives for letting him "explore the opportunity" to enter politics.

Finebaum is now looking forward to focusing solely on college football.
"But it’s time for me to devote my full attention to something everyone in Alabama can agree upon - our love of college football," Finebaum added.
Sources familiar with the matter expected Finebaum to announce his entry into the race after the conclusion of the 2025 college football season.
