The Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC) is planning to hire a new executive director.

John Garner, who has served in the position since it was created in 2010, is retiring effective April 1, according to AL(dot)com.

The PSC has called a special meeting for Tuesday afternoon to discuss the transition and possible candidates, PSC president Cynthia Almond told the outlet.

A bill to change the PSC from an elected position to an appointed one was stalled in the House last week.
