A recent Washington Post article quoting so-called Republicans and independents protesting recent DOGE cuts and U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) actually quoted Democrats.
According to Fox News, every protester the Washington Post quoted in the story with a first and last name has donated to Democrats.
According to FEC records, Melanie Kowlowski, the main protester quoted in the story, was described as “politically independent” and a “Second Amendment fan” who was a “proud owner of a Glock 47,” made multiple donations to ActBlue Democrat political action committee in 2019 and 2020, totalling $25.
She’s also a registered Democrat, according to Fox News.
Another person quoted in the Washington Post story, Michael Bonaker, is a registered Republican but has only donated to Democrats, according to FEC records. He posted on the social media platform BlueSky that "if you support MAGA and ’47, you are a racist,” according to Fox News.
The Washington Post included a picture in the story with Kolowski holding an upside-down American flag, while Strong spoke at the event with the caption, "Kolowski held a silent protest with Zeb Lemon, left, and Jeremy Devito as Strong spoke at the defense contractor event."
Lemon is a Democratic donor. Devito is also a registered Democrat and Democrat donor who has filed to run for Congress as a Democrat against Strong.
Strong told 1819 News on Thursday, "These protesters are hard-line Democrats who just want a platform to attack President Trump and his conservative agenda.”
“I'm not going to change the way I do business to appease Soros-aligned agitators," he continued. "The Washington Post article is nothing more than a misleading hit piece that intentionally left out important details, further proving why people don't trust the legacy media.”
