Longtime State Sen. Tom Butler (R-Madison) will not seek re-election in 2026.
Butler will announce those plans in a news conference on Tuesday at the Madison County Legislative Office in downtown Huntsville, according to 256 Today.
Butler represents Senate District 2, which is made up of east Limestone County and western Madison County, including the cities of Athens, Huntsville and Madison.
Butler was a member of the House from 1982-1994 and a member of the Senate from 1994-2010 and since 2018.
