Republican Secretary of State candidate Andrew Sorrell, who currently serves as state auditor, recently reported $50,027 in contributions raised in just 12 days, a new fundraising record on an initial campaign finance report for the office.
When combined with a personal loan he previously gave his campaign, Sorrell currently reports an impressive $270,013.16 cash on hand for the statewide race.
“The outpouring of support for our campaign is deeply appreciated and redoubles my determination to continue serving Alabama as its next secretary of state,” Sorrell said. “A strong grassroots effort is essential to any political campaign, so we will continue recruiting new supporters and spreading my commonsense, Christian, conservative message during our travels throughout the state.”
Raising more than $50,000 in just 12 days bests the performances of the two previous victors for secretary of state, who each reported $13,000 and $38,481 in donations during the same period for the same office, respectively. The prior numbers exclude transfers from pre-existing campaign accounts.
Though proving to be a prolific campaign fundraiser, Sorrell has demonstrated his careful and tight-fisted use of public taxpayer dollars throughout his time in statewide office. Elected state auditor in 2022, he has declined use of the state vehicle available to him as a constitutional officer, relocated the office’s staff to least costly workspaces, and left an administrative assistant position unfilled, all of which have combined to provide substantial six-figure savings to taxpayers.
A successful serial entrepreneur, Sorrell started his first company at the age of 16 and currently owns four Alabama-based businesses, which employ approximately 20 people.
During his previous service representing Colbert County in the Alabama House of Representatives, Sorrell received the “Conservative Policy Warrior” award from the Alabama Policy Institute as well as a perfect 100 rating on the American Conservative Union scorecard.
The son, grandson and great-grandson of preachers, Sorrell met his wife, Hannah, in 2016 while they were traveling in Rome, Italy, on a church history tour. They are parents to their two daughters, Liberty and Glory, and are currently expecting their third child.
