A former University of Alabama at Birmingham official was among the top federal health leaders across the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) who were removed from their jobs on Tuesday.

Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, who replaced Dr. Anthony Fauci in August 2023 as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was removed as part of a restructuring order by new HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, according to CBS News.

Marrazzo previously served as the Division of Infectious Diseases director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Kennedy said on X on Tuesday, “Let’s restore @HHSgov health agencies to their rich tradition of gold-standard, evidence-based science to tackle the chronic disease epidemic and Make America Healthy Again.”

“The revolution begins today!” Kennedy said.
