Chloé and Ric Mayers donated $1 million to Tuscaloosa Academy recently.

According to Business Alabama Magazine, the gift will go toward the school’s Building Excellence Capital Campaign, which has a goal of $7 million. The capital campaign is about 70% complete. Once the goal is met, the school will use the funds to build a 23,000-square-foot athletic center, designed by Ward Scott Morris Architecture, for student athletic programs.

The athletic center will include a gymnasium, locker rooms, a football field house, and a weight room.

“This project isn’t just about Tuscaloosa Academy — it’s about Tuscaloosa,” Ric Mayers said in a statement to Business Alabama. “Strong schools make strong communities. This athletic center will inspire pride, opportunity and connection for generations to come.”

With the contribution, the Building Excellence Campaign has now raised more than $5 million.
