AUBURN — Rich McGlynn, Auburn University’s executive associate athletics director (AD) in charge of compliance, has been named the interim athletics director by Auburn University President Dr. Chris Roberts.

Roberts made the announcement on Tuesday, explaining that McGlynn would serve on an interim basis while Roberts led a national search.

“I am confident in Rich’s ability to lead us forward during this transition period as he has tremendous experience in the field and at Auburn University,” Roberts said in a statement.

McGlynn has been with Auburn athletics for 17 years, serving in various areas within the department since 2006.

As the executive associate AD, McGlynn is also the sport administrator for Auburn men’s basketball, equestrian, and swimming and diving, with the programs winning multiple SEC championships during that time.

Prior to that, McGlynn oversaw football as an administrator during the team’s miraculous 2013 national championship run.

Before joining Auburn in 2006, McGlynn worked with the NCAA for five years.

“Ultimately, this is not about me; it is about Auburn and most importantly our student-athletes,” McGlynn stated. “I want to help Auburn Athletics strive to be excellent every day, with the ultimate goal of making the Auburn Family proud.”

Additional details on the national search by Roberts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
