Rob Gray is stepping down as the head coach of the Faulkner University football team after four seasons.

Gray assumed the role as the seventh head coach in program history in 2021 after serving various assistant coaching roles for the prior two seasons. Faulkner finished with a record of 2-8 in the 2024 season.

“Transitions like these are always challenging,” said Faulkner University president Mitch Henry. “However, we remain committed to upholding a culture of excellence, integrity, and growth in all areas of our athletics department. We are grateful for Coach Gray's dedication to our student-athletes and his contributions to the program.”

In the interim, Randy Ragsdale will assume the role of Faulkner University head coach as the university begins the process of finding new leadership. Ragsdale coached for 28 years at Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery. Ragsdale joined the Faulkner football staff in 2021. A member of the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame, Ragsdale served as Associate Head Coach for the Eagles and has been responsible for player development.

According to Faulkner University, the search for a new head coach is already underway, with plans focused on identifying a candidate whose values and goals align with the mission of Faulkner University and its football program.

"We appreciate the support of our community and our student-athletes as we navigate this time of transition," Henry said. "We are confident that the future of Faulkner Eagles Football remains bright as we continue to build upon a foundation of excellence and success."
