While on a visit to the U.S. Navy's Yokosuka base in Yokosuka, Japan, President Donald Trump discussed his love for Alabama football.

In an address to the troops, Trump noted that one of the base's commanding officers, Alabama alum Tim Waits of Anniston, was a big Crimson Tide fan, and he gave a hearty "Roll Tide" in his honor.

"I hear your commanding officer is a big Alabama football fan. You know, I love Alabama. I love Alabama. Captain Timothy Waits, and let me say Roll Tide," Trump said. "You know, I love Alabama. Roll Tide."

The President said he would not have mentioned Waits' fandom had the Tide not come back to beat South Carolina this week.

"That was a hell of a game this week. I don't know how the hell you pulled that one out. ... If you didn't win, I wouldn't have mentioned it. I would have just introduced you. I wouldn't have, but you came back from oblivion. Isn't it nice coming back? You know, coming back is good," Trump added.

Trump has attended three Crimson Tide football games, most recently in 2024, and delivered a commencement speech at the University of Alabama in May of this year.
