The Russell County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two Russell County High School staff members in connection with a sexual contact with a student case.
Charles Davis, 45, and Courtney Jones, 25, are facing charges.
Davis, the school’s girls' flag football team coach, is charged with sexual contact with a student, solicitation of sexual contact with a student, school employee soliciting obscene material, soliciting sexual abuse material and intimidating a witness.
Jones, a school receptionist, is charged with intimidating a witness and hindering prosecution.
The investigation began on February 21 when the sheriff’s office received information that Davis was having an inappropriate relationship with a senior. The information came from concerned students. Investigators combed through a year’s worth of surveillance footage from the school and eventually charged the coach. They believe he groomed the student for at least two months before authorities were alerted.
Jones became involved in the case after Davis was put on leave and she communicated with the victim for him.
Davis was arrested in Atlanta, where he is listed as a resident.
Sheriff Heath Taylor said the investigation is ongoing.
