The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the shooting of a man police said attacked a DoorDash delivery driver, then stabbed an officer.
The unidentified man is the suspect in an altercation at Mills Trailer Park. The Russellville Police Department responded, and officers reported witnessing an active assault against the delivery driver.
An officer intervened and was stabbed. The officer discharged his weapon, striking the man. The officer was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
Police said that if not for the officer's actions, the situation could have been much worse.
"We are thankful that he is recovering and commend his courage and selfless actions," police stated. "His quick and decisive response likely prevented further serious injury or loss of life."
The condition of the suspect is unknown.
