According to a report from "Yea Alabama,” the University of Alabama's NIL entity, the Crimson Tide are bringing on Ryan Grubb as their next offensive coordinator.

Grubb, a former Kalen DeBoer assistant, was scheduled to follow DeBoer to Alabama last year but instead took the offensive coordinator position with the Seattle Seahawks. After just one season, Grubb was dismissed based on philosophical differences with head coach Mike McDonald.

DeBoer and Grubb share a long history working together, serving as his offensive coordinator at Fresno State and Washington. Grubb also worked under DeBoer as the offensive line coach at Sioux Falls and Eastern Michigan.

“We go way back,” DeBoer said when asked about Grubb during a Senior Bowl appearance in Mobile last week. “Great friend of mine. Think the world of him as a football coach, obviously as a person too. And so, I know he’s working through his process, just kind of after what last season brought, so just gotta see what he does there and (I’m) here for him whenever he needs me. That’s always going to be the case.”

After Grubb decided to take the Seattle offensive coordinator job last season, the Crimson Tide named Nick Sheridan the offensive coordinator position. Sheridan did a solid job at Alabama last season leading the Crimson Tide to 33.8 points per game, ranking No. 22 in the nation and 410.2 yards per game that was good for No. 42 in the NCAA. More importantly, Sheridan was the lead recruiter in bringing in the No. 1 recruit in the nation, quarterback Keelon Russell.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, Sheridan is expected to remain on staff.

In their final season at Washington in 2023, Grubb and DeBoer took the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and a national title game appearance. Their offense, led by Heisman Trophy runner-up Michael Penix, Jr., ranked second in the nation with an average of 343.7 passing yards per game. That season, Washington's offense also averaged 36 points and 462.1 total yards per game.

In Grubb’s only season with the Seahawks, his offense ranked 14th in the NFL in total yards per game with 332.2 and 18th in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game. Seattle's passing game was among the league's best, ranking eighth with an average of 236.5 yards per game.
