ORANGE BEACH — U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said those receiving SNAP will soon see changes due to SNAP reform.

Britt said people taking advantage of the system have made it necessary to look at changes.

“For too often, we've had programs that were supposed to be safety nets that turned into hammocks for people,” Britt said. “And what we want to do is help people who are struggling, but help them get back on their feet and be able to succeed and achieve their own American dream.”

SNAP reform will ensure benefits continue to be available to those who need them and support those who are able to work towards independence. However, Britt said for those taking advantage of the system, there will soon be an end to unnecessary spending.

Recipients will soon be required to reapply for SNAP. Britt said the dates will come out state by state and those in need should be on the lookout for an announcement.
