Samford got back on track in Southern Conference men's basketball play with an 85-77 win at Western Carolina on Wednesday night.
Logan Dye scored a career-high 24 points to help the Bulldogs (15-9 overall, 9-2 SoCon) hold off the Catamounts. Dye added seven rebounds and hit a 3-pointer to help the Bulldogs stay in a first-place tie with Furman, while UNC Greensboro is a half-game back.
Samford trailed, 23-16, with nine minutes left in the first half. From that point forward, the Bulldogs outscored the Catamounts (12-12 overall, 5-6 SoCon) by 16 points to claim a 42-33 lead at halftime. Ques Glover had all 11 of his points in the final 5:19 of the first half. Glover's final point of the half came on a 3-pointer just before the buzzer.
The win didn't come easy in the second half. Western Carolina made a run, taking a 61-60 lead at the halfway point of the final half. With eight minutes left, the teams were tied at 64. Samford built the lead back to two possessions and was able to hold on down the stretch.
A.J. Staton-McCray had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Glover chipped in with 17 points and three rebounds.
Samford returns home after going 1-2 on the road over the past eight days. The Bulldogs play host to East Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
