Montgomery-area folks who like it because of the food are breathing a sigh of relief.

Folks who like to listen to live music four nights a week are breathing easier.

Folks who like to gather with friends won’t lose their gathering place.

Jan’s Beach House Grill will not be closing after all. Owner Jan Goings had told her followers last year that her lease would not be renewed. The property was being sold, and the building was going to be torn down.

Jan then finagled a couple of extensions and kept the place going. There was always a glimmer of hope. Ms. Goings kept it going.

The final word – we thought – was that Jan’s would close on April 1 of this year. That turned out to be an April Fool’s joke – a good April Fool’s joke.

Friday, Jan posted some good news:

Hello friends of the Beach House-I have some amazing news to share. We are not going to be closing in April. Our landlord has extended our lease for at least another year. I am so happy for our wonderful employees and all of our dear customers/friends. God is good!

Jan’s is not only a popular restaurant but also a venue for nighttime music and dance. On Wednesday through Saturday nights, you can call in advance for dinner reservations and get a good table for live entertainment. There is also dancing in the aisles, which become a dance floor.

Some popular groups which are often booked at Jan’s are: Charlie Casmus and the Cuzamatics, The Graffiti Band, The Kayotics, Steve Maness Trio, J.D. Express, Threeza Crow, Tony Mills, Jukebox Allstars, Mother Moonpie, Jimmy Baker, Vintage Vibes, Slim Barnes Trio.

Jan’s Beach House has become the Branson, Mo. of Alabama.

It is also a gathering place for friends, retirees and politicians.

Political rumors are shared in Jan’s. An occasional romance buds there.

Jan’s food defies a short description. Lunch is a meat and three plus daily specials plus seafood – fried or grilled; salads; sandwiches. Grouper fingers.

Dinner features a full menu. For details, go here.
