Tax renewals for the Russell County School District and Phenix City Schools will appear on the ballot for Russell County residents on Tuesday.

If the measures pass, the existing 4.5 mill ad valorem countywide school taxes will be renewed for another 30 years. The taxes will not be increased and will remain 45 cents per $100 of assessed property value.

If the tax for the Russell County School District is not renewed, the system will lose approximately $5.7 million in funding. School officials said that would impact "general school operations including classroom instruction, student programs, transportation, instructional materials and maintenance of facilities."

The Phenix City tax applies only to properties within the corporate limits.

Phenix City Schools officials said millions raised with the tax impact the quality of education, including "empowering teachers and learners, opportunities beyond the classroom, safe travels to and from school and safe and secure learning environments."
