The suspect in the shooting of two people in 2023 has been found guilty of murder, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Prosecutors said Carman Johnson, 34, shot into a vehicle on Dec. 30, 2023, striking two people. His intended target, Bobby Grimes, was injured, and his passenger, Lamount Fagan, was struck and killed.
A September 2025 trial ended in a hung jury.
"A mistrial did not change our responsibility to the victims or to the people of Mobile County," said Mobile District Attorney Keith Blackwood. "From the very beginning, our office remained committed to pursuing justice in this case, and we stayed focused until a jury was able to reach a verdict. We are grateful to the jury for their service and to the victim's family for their continued strength."
Sentencing is set for February 25.
Johnson and his brother, Cameron, were both charged in the case. Cameron Johnson is awaiting trial.
