GUNTERSVILLE — As he eyes the lieutenant governor’s position, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is promising to keep pursuing election integrity until his last day in office, come January 2027.
During a meeting with the Marshall County Republican Women in Guntersville on Thursday, Allen said his office was doing “some great work” ensuring only American citizens vote in elections. He referred to the 186 non-citizens recently discovered on Alabama’s voter rolls, of which 25 had voted.
“I get yelled at all the time, ‘It’s just 25. Maybe go do something else.’ No, I’m not,” Allen said. “We are going to make sure that only American citizens are voting in our elections. I mean, it’s important. I got a high standard.”
He continued, “I want to make sure that we do our very level best in that office with the time I've got remaining, before I step out of office in January 2027. I want to make sure I turn over the keys in that office and leave it in as good a shape as I can possibly leave it for the next person.”
With the Republican primary set for May, Allen is currently the frontrunner in the lieutenant governor’s race. However, that could change if Alabama Republican Party chair John Wahl makes a last-minute entry following a speculative endorsement from President Donald Trump.
