The Mobile County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Semmes.

According to multiple reports, the owner of Bowman's Auto Air on Moffett Road was shot five times early Sunday morning.

Semmes officers on patrol following a burglary in the area noticed a door was unlocked, Fox 10 reported. As the officers entered the building, they saw someone moving inside a camper. Officers said they announced their presence, and the owner opened the door and began shooting. Police returned fire, striking the man.

An officer was grazed in the lower back by a bullet.

Bowman is accused of barricading himself in the camper for two hours following the gunfire. He eventually surrendered and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No charges had been filed as of Monday evening, but the investigation is ongoing.

Semmes Police chief Todd Friend told reporters that the department has had prior interactions with the owner, identified as Johnny Bowman, Jr.
