Mountain Brook urologist Dr. Brian Christine’s nomination to be Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was moved out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee (HELP) last week, paving the way for his full confirmation by the Senate.
“These nominees are vital to advancing President Trump’s pro-worker, pro-family, pro-patient agenda,” said U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) in a written statement. “As Chairman of the HELP Committee, I am committed to getting President Trump’s team in place as quickly as possible.”
The vote followed a committee hearing on July 16 during which Dr. Christine was introduced by U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), who said, " It's an honor to introduce my friend and constituent, Dr. Brian Christine. Also thrilled to welcome today his wife, Helena, and sister, Kathleen. Thank you for being here."
Dr. Christine would replace Dr. Rachel Levine, whose priorities included the promotion of abortion and efforts to sterilize and mutilate children under the guise of “gender affirming care.”

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) celebrated Dr. Christine's saying, "Proud to see U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Republicans advance Alabamian Dr. Brian Christine as Assistant Secretary for Health today at HHS! I look forward to voting to confirm his nomination as we work together to Make America Healthy Again."
