MONTGOMERY — Another gambling and lottery bill and constitutional amendment “may be coming back” this legislative session, according to Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro).

Singleton told reporters on Thursday, “I’m hearing it may be coming back. I have not seen a bill. I’ve been hearing some concepts.”

“The concepts that I’m hearing, I can support it yet I have not seen a bill. The concepts (are) it’s still trying to bring in sports wagering, a lottery, and some kind of gaming whether that be class II or class III whichever we think that we can get passed. That’s what I’m hearing. Until me and my party see it, we can’t commit to vote for it before we see it,” Singleton said.

A gambling and lottery constitutional amendment fell one vote short of passing the Senate in 2024 after passing the House. No bill has been filed so far in the 2025 session. State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore) said during an interview a couple weeks ago on Alabama Public Television's "Capitol Journal” that the Senate was now two or three votes short of enough support to pass a constitutional amendment on the topic.

Albritton told 1819 News on Thursday, “The count is the count. There’s been very little change.”

“The difficulty, frankly, is that a critical number doesn't want to deal with it,” Albritton said.
