The Alabama Senate Republican Caucus voted not to move forward with proposed ready-to-drink cocktail legislation on Tuesday.

Legislation by Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro) would’ve allowed ready-to-drink mixed liquor beverages containing no more than seven percent alcohol by volume to be sold at grocery and convenience stores in Alabama.

Currently, retail sales of the products like High Noon are limited to ABC stores and package stores.

Similar legislation passed the House last year but died in the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader Steve Livingston (R-Scottsboro) told 1819 News in a statement on Tuesday, “The Caucus took a vote and agreed not to move the RTD legislation forward this year.”

“Senate Republicans remain focused on putting more money back in the pockets of hardworking Alabamians, keeping illegal immigrants out of our state, protecting our children, and responsibly funding state government,” Livingston said.
