U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) criticized a handful of countries following their move last weekend to recognize Palestinian statehood. The congressman called the decision "deeply troubling," pointing out that it incentivizes further violence in Gaza from the terror group, Hamas.

"Over the weekend, we saw the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and others move to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state, with France expected to follow. This sends the wrong message at the worst possible time," said Moore.

Moore, a candidate for U.S. Senate, then referenced the brutal terror attack on Israeli civilians perpetrated by Hamas that sparked the ongoing war almost two years ago.

"Coming up on the horrible anniversary of the October 7th terrorist attack, where Hamas murdered innocent Israelis and still holds hostages, rewarding these terrorists with recognition is dangerous," Moore said. "It legitimizes Hamas' use of terror as a political tool and undermines the cause of peace. The United States must stand firmly with our strongest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and reject any more moves that embolden terrorists."

"I will continue to speak out against these reckless decisions and push for policies that strengthen our alliance with Israel and hold Hamas accountable for its evil acts," he added.

Moore spoke previously in June about backing Israel in the face of violence.

"If nobody had ever attacked Israel, there would be peace in the region, but those nations and those proxy countries around Israel they've allowed it to happen; they have one full goal and that's to destroy Israel, so we have a responsibility as a nation to stand with our allies," he stated.
