The University of Alabama is under fire from liberal groups, on and off campus, for refusing to challenge the First Amendment rights of conservative, religious, and same-sex student groups who may not want to waive their rights.

The university's Queer Student Union has announced that they're hosting an event this Thursday from 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. on the Quad in protest of university administration honoring the first amendment rights of other student groups.

According to an email obtained by 1819 News, the Queer Student Association, alongside College Democrats, Planned Parenthood Generation Action, The Leftist Collective, Southern Labor Youth Movement, The Social Work Association for Cultural Awareness, and Druid Collective, are hosting the protest.

As previously reported by 1819 News, school administrators informed all campus groups that the following clause is required for any club's constitution on campus:

"Membership in registered student organizations shall be open to all students of The University of Alabama, without regard to race, religion, sex, ability status, national origin, color, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual identity, or veteran status except in cases designated fraternal organizations exempted by federal law from Title IX regulations concerning discrimination on the basis of sex."

The student group YAF took their objections over the gender ideology and gender expression to the University of Alabama's president and Attorney General Steve Marshall. In doing so, they received an exemption, which allowed them to omit the language. 1819 News has been made aware of at least one other group which did not use the compelled language.

The email from Bryce Schottelkotte of the The Queer Student Association says, "This decision sets a concerning precedent—not only for LGBTQ+ students at UA but for all students who do not conform to societal norms."
