The Birmingham Police Department is investigating two separate shootings Saturday that claimed the lives of seven people and injured others.

The first shooting happened around 5:30 p.m., according to Office Truman Fitzerald. A man, a woman, and a male child believed to be five years old were shot near the entrance of Echo Highlands Park.

Police arrived on the scene and found the vehicle crashed with bullet holes.

Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded and pronounced all three victims dead on the scene.

A suspect has not been identified.

Police from the north precinct were called to the second shooting at 11:08 p.m. Multiple people were shot at a nightclub in the 3400 block of 27th Street North.

Fitzgerald said officers observed multiple gunshot victims on the scene. After the scene was cleared, Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded and pronounced a man on the sidewalk outside the club and two women inside the nightclub dead.

Another victim was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital where Fitzgerald said nine other gunshot victims were being treated.

Detectives believe at least one suspect fired shots from the street into the nightclub.

The motive for the shooting has not been revealed.

Anyone with information or video evidence on either shooting is asked to call the Birmingham Police Department.
