Seven players with Alabama ties were selected in the USFL college draft on Tuesday. Former UAB offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort was the lone first-round pick among the group. The Birmingham Stallions chose Telfort with the seventh overall pick.

The Stallions also chose former Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham (Park Crossing High in Montgomery) in the third round, former Charlotte wide receiver Grant Dubose (Park Crossing High) in the seventh round and former UAB cornerback Starling Thomas V (Ramsay High) in the 10th round.

Others drafted players with Alabama ties were former Alabama State cornerback Keenan Isaac (Midfield High by the Houston Gamblers in the sixth round, former UAB receiver Trea Shropshire by the Memphis Showboats in the eighth round and former Alabama linebacker Dre Terry in the 10th round.

Seven of the USFL's eight teams were eligible to select 10 players on Monday. The New Jersey Generals lost the first-round pick for violating off-season roster rules. Players selected can still go through the NFL draft process, which includes testing at their college's pro day, to see if they have NFL options.

In a story on FoxSports.com, USFL Director of Player Administration Jim Popp said, "At least about 50 percent of the pro days will be over with by the time we start training camp (in March). And out of that 50 percent, guys will know how they do and what feedback they get from NFL teams. A lot of them have waited for that moment once they got into college to do that pro day. So, they will already know their other options while going through their pro day. And that will probably help them make their decision."
