Two deserving veterans, who were severely wounded in combat, will be receiving all-terrain Trackchairs at halftime during this year's Iron Bowl, thanks to The Independence Fund's Mobility Program and the Kappa Alpha chapters at the University of Alabama and Auburn University.
The last time a presentation like this occurred was in 2021, when The Independence Fund presented a Trackchair at the Iron Bowl for the first time.
"This is more than just a donation; it's a testament to these heroes' enduring spirit of service and the profound impact of community," said Steven Rozina, deputy chief operating officer of The Independence Fund. "We are incredibly proud to facilitate this partnership with Kappa Alpha and to present these heroes with their all-terrain trackchairs at the Iron Bowl, in front of thousands of Americans."
"It's an unparalleled opportunity to express our gratitude and show them they are never forgotten," Rozina added.
The two veterans set to receive the trackchairs are:
- Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Jason Smith — Smith served five years in the U.S. Army, sustaining catastrophic injuries in Afghanistan and earning a Purple Heart, and today is a devoted husband, father, and competitive powerlifter.
- Retired U.S. Army Specialist Lance Gieselmann — Gieselmann served five years in the U.S. Army, sustaining catastrophic injuries in Iraq and earning a Purple Heart, and today is a devoted husband, father, coach, gardener/farmer, and Auburn football fan.
The Independence Fund is a non-profit organization that supports veterans who were "catastrophically wounded," injured or ill U.S. veterans and their families by providing programs to "restore physical, mental, emotional and spiritual independence."
