Several incumbent Alabama House members have complained about mailers being sent by Alabama Values PAC, founded by former State Sen. Dell Hill.

State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne), who is running for re-election, said he is getting ready to take the issue to court.

"Writing a known false statement is called libel defamation under Alabama law," Simpson posted on Facebook. "Dear Alabama Values PAC you better lawyer up because I am. This is provably false information."

The mailer targeting Simpson claimed he prioritized free college for illegals, legalizing bribes for election officials, early parole for violent felons and higher taxes on firearms while not prioritizing individuals and their families.

Alabama Values PAC stood behind the mailer, except for one part.

The PAC responded, saying, "We have accurately criticized Matt Simpson for voting to eliminate restrictions on lobbyist gifts to politicians, banning firearm components, seizing guns without due process, supporting a vaccine mandate and voting for higher gas taxes. In a recent mailer, we briefly mentioned an issue involving college tuition. That was a printing error. We have sent a follow-up mailer with a correction to everyone who received the initial mailer."

Simpson is being challenged by Danielle Duggar in the Alabama House District 96 race.

The primary is on May 19.
